Arisan Karya
First Edition of Arisan Karya
A drive to support Indonesian art communities.
18.05 — 27.05.2020
About Arisan Karya
Museum MACAN initiates Arisan Karya (translates to ‘artwork raffle’), a drive to boost the Indonesian art community during crisis. This project also provides an opportunity for Indonesians to virtually gather and appreciate local arts. In the first edition of Arisan Karya, artists submit artworks that are available for purchase between 20 – 28 May 2020. The second and third Arisan Karya will occur in June and July 2020.
"Arisan" in contemporary Indonesian culture refers to monthly social gatherings among neighbours, whereby every participant contributes an agreed amount of money that is collected and raffled at each gathering. Participants whose names are drawn at the raffle take home the collected money. Traditionally, arisan encourages combined saving to help participants purchase extra household needs.
At its core, arisan is a social tradition that values trust and support among participants. In the same spirit, Arisan Karya is designed to be an act of support that will drive other acts of support that will benefit artists, art workers and the public at large. To start the support, Museum MACAN has invited local artists to create artworks, and is now organizing an Open Call. As supporters, you have the power to start this cycle of support going!
To complete the cycle of support, artists will donate online materials in the form of art tips, workshops to do at home or talk programs. All materials will be delivered on our Museum from Home page. Museum MACAN team will also be sharing knowledge with selected art managers in a few cities across Indonesia, through our Regional Coordinators program.

FAQ
1. What goes into the selection for artworks in Arisan Karya?
Open call for artists is running until 12 May 2020. Starting 15 May 2020, Museum MACAN will be announcing the results of artwork selection through personal e-mail to every participating artist. The selection is conducted by the Museum's curatorial team.
2. How many times would Arisan Karya be held?
Arisan Karya will be held in three rounds, starting May (20 – 28 May 2020), June and July 2020.
3. Why are all artworks priced at IDR1 million?
Arisan Karya is a drive that is designed to emphasize an art museum's role to connect the art communities with the public. Although the support is shown through money, the amount of proceeds collected is not the main goal of the program, but the spirit of sharing from artists to the supporters, artists to the public at large, and the Museum to art managers in a few cities across Indonesia. The price of IDR1 million is a symbol of togetherness from this initiative.
4. How would the proceeds be distributed?
From the total proceeds, 70% would be donated to the artists or the charities of their choice. The balance is used to facilitate other components of the program — including a small stipend for up to 5 arts managers across Indonesia, who will help to coordinate the program; the implementation of a small training program for these arts managers, as well as the development of content for the public (including art tips, workshops at home, or talks).
5. How to purchase the artworks in Arisan Karya?
Click this link to purchase a "Mystery Artwork." Upon completing payment, you will receive a ticket number. This ticket number will be announced on the day of the raffle (29 May 2020). Each ticket will be eligible for one (1) artwork. You will find out which artwork you are getting during an Instagram Live Session at Museum MACAN's Instagram @museummacan. The raffle results will then be announced at shop.museummacan.org.
6. What are the payment methods I can use?
During checkout, you can make payment via bank transfer only to PT Galleri Museum MACAN account, via BCA bank transfer, credit card, and GoPay. Payment methods can be seen in full during checkout. Payment must be completed within 3 (three) hours after the checkout process. For payment via bank transfer to be valid, you must send proof of payment. Payment or proof of payment that has not been completed within the stated time frame will be considered as void.
7. When will I get the artwork I purchased?
Artwork will be shipped through a domestic shipping service after 29 May 2020 (max. 14 business days).
8. How does the delivery process work?
The delivery process of the artwork will begin after May 29th. You will receive an email confirmation and a WhatsApp from one of the Regional Coordinators for the process of organizing the sending of works. The cost of shipping (the closest regional coordinator from the artist to the customer) is paid by the customer.
9. Can I exchange or return the ticket or the artwork that I have bought?
Purchased tickets and acquired artworks cannot be exchanged, returned or refunded. In consideration of your support to the artists and Museum MACAN, you confirm and agree that you will not sell this work for a period of 10 (ten) years from your purchase date.
Disclaimer
Your purchased artwork is non-refundable nor can be exchanged. In consideration of your support and donation to the artists and Museum MACAN, you confirm and agree that you will not sell the purchased work(s) for a period of 10 (ten) years from the purchase date.
