About the Children's Art Space
Ulik Ulak Alik is Museum MACAN's 13th Children's Art Space project and the first to be created in collaboration with a group of product designers, Playo, rather than artists.
Combining elements of “form, function, fiasco,” Ulik Ulak Alik offers an interactive experience through modular objects of various shapes and sizes. Audiences of all ages are encouraged to explore a wide range of colors, textures, and scents. Through interaction, this activity transforms into a playful journey that crosses the realms of social, biological, cultural, technological, and design aspects—or even transcends them!
In addition to play, audiences can delve deeper into the concept of alternative materials through the material library in the space and access research papers that explore the role of play in human life.
The alternative materials featured in this project were developed in collaboration with ten Indonesian material designers: Adhi Nugraha Design Studio, Bell Living Lab, Conture Concrete Lab, Daur Goods, Denny Priyatna, HomLab, Mortier, MYCL, Natakraf, and Rambah Runtah.
Children's Art Space: Ulik Ulak Alik (Infinite Play) can be accessed with a valid museum ticket at no additional cost.
Playo is a Jakarta-based creative studio consisting of Adil Alba, Genie Anggita, Gabriela Alinda, and Elsadira Suciana. For the Children's Art Space – Playo: Ulik Ulak Alik, they present a multi-sensory play arena for both children and adults, utilizing alternative materials.
