About the Publication
Museum MACAN is proud to announce the launch of a new publication on the renowned Indonesian artist, Melati Suryodarmo. Published in collaboration with Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, United Kingdom, this book serves as a comprehensive document of Melati Suryodarmo’s work over the past two decades, focusing on her key performance works.
The publication commemorated the major exhibitions held by Museum MACAN and Ikon Gallery in Jakarta and Birmingham in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Titled Melati Suryodarmo, this book is presented in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. It offers insights into the artist’s practice as explored by three leading curators who have long-standing relationships and understanding of her works, including: Alia Swastika, Philippe Pirotte, and Asep Topan.
Additionally, it includes conversations between Melati Suryodarmo and Melanie Pocock, Acting Artistic Director of Exhibitions at Ikon Gallery; and documentation from the exhibitions Why Let the Chicken Run? presented at Museum MACAN in 2020 and Passionate Pilgrim presented at Ikon Gallery in 2023.
