Citra Sasmita was born in 1990 in Tabanan, Bali. She currently lives and works in Bali. Her practice, which is indebted to the Kamasan Balinese painting tradition, focuses on unravelling the myths and misconceptions of Balinese art and culture. The role and position of women is a central concern in her art practice.

In this online discussion, Citra discusses the influence and legacy of I GAK Murniasih (1966–2006), another Balinese painter, whose paintings of women were in stark contrast to the conservative expectations at the time.
