About the Program
Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami coined the term “Superflat” in 2001, a postmodern aesthetic characteristic that combines fine art and pop culture with its colorful, two-dimentional style. Through the incorporation of contemporary media such as manga, animation, and traditional elements of Japanese nihonga and ukiyo-e, “Superflat” has influenced a new generation of Japanese artists and has had a global impact on popular culture.
To celebrate the Takashi Murakami’s artwork which is currently on display in Museum MACAN titled "I Do Not Rule My Dreams, My Dreams Rule Me" (2010), this program will discuss the relationship between art and animation, as well as its development in Indonesia and Japan through the perspectives of animation practitioners and lecturers.
Speakers:
Alfi Zachkyelle (Founder, Kampoong Monster Studios, and Lecturer of Animation, ISI Yogyakarta)
Yamamura Koji (Founder, Yamamura Animations Inc. and Professor of Animation, Tokyo Geidai)
Moderated by Asri Winata (Museum MACAN's Assistant Curator).
