A keynote lecture by Julian Rosefeldt in conjunction with Julian Rosefeldt: Manifesto di Museum MACAN
Tuesday 25 February 2020 19.00 – 21.00
Overview
Museum MACAN and Goethe-Institut Indonesia present a keynote lecture with internationally-acclaimed German artist Julian Rosefeldt, in light of the Indonesian premiere of Manifesto (2015), a 13-channel film installation by the artist featuring actress Cate Blanchett.
In Manifesto, Rosefeldt draws on the writings of Futurists, Dadaists, Fluxus artists, Suprematists, Situationists, Dogme 95 and other artist groups, as well as the musings of individual artists, architects, dancers and filmmakers from its earliest emergence in the 20th century. Blanchett recites these writing as 12 different personas, including a factory worker, a television news anchor, a kindergarten teacher to a homeless man. As a whole, the work pays homage to the moving tradition and literary beauty of artists’ manifestos while provoking reflection upon the role of artists in today’s society.
This lecture will explore Rosefeldt’s perspective as a writer, editor, producer and director of Manifesto. By reassembling powerful words and ideas from Claes Oldenburg, Yvonne Rainer, AndreÌ Breton, Sturtevant, Sol LeWit among other influential artists, the artist manages to ignite curiosity and intrigue audience with globally-relatable issues including dislocation and psychological disruption.
Manifesto is on view at Museum MACAN from 28 February – 31 May 2020. This session is a collaborative public program organized by Museum MACAN and Goethe-Institut Indonesia. The lecture will be delivered in English, with Bahasa Indonesia translation available through simultaneous translation system in limited quantity.
Important Note: The lecture will be held at Goethe Institut Jakarta Jl. Dr. GSSJ Ratulangi No. 9-15 Jakarta 10350
