About the Program
While Patricia Piccinini’s practice rethinks the potential of the bodies in relation to scientific advancements in biotechnology, her works are also rooted in basic emotions of care and compassion – which are commonly expressed through physical gestures of the bodies. Furthermore, her works also explore themes of body fluidity that transcends physicality, and instead, celebrates expressed personality as a way of defining one’s essence of life.
One way to express ourselves through our bodies is through dance. In some styles of dance, you not only synchronize your own movements, but also get to interact with a partner or even groups of people too.
#MenaridiMACAN: Swing The Night Away invites you to delve into Patricia Piccinini’s hopeful ideas of compassion and togetherness through an interactive social dance hosted by INDOSWING – a Swing community based in Jakarta. Whether a dance enthusiast or a curious beginner, you will get to take to the floor and freely express yourself through the rhythmic and energetic movements of Swing Dance.
Taking place alongside MACAN After Hours, the program will begin with a 30-45 minute introduction session to Lindy Hop and continue with a social dance accompanied by a selection of 1930–1950s Swing Jazz tunes throughout the night!
