About the Program
Saturday, 7 October 2023 at 02.30–03.30 PM
Cardboard has become a material that is associated with the installation works by artists Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan. For the artists, cardboard is a way to engage everyone to create artwork together.
Several installations included in the Somewhere, Elsewhere, Nowhere exhibition are made of cardboard. In addition, there are also a number of works that explore the shape of wings, such as the series Last Flight: Project Be-longing (1999–2023), that features wings made of used flip-flops; Belok Kiri Jalan Terus (The Left Wing Project) (2017–2018) that assemble iron sickles into bird’s left wings; and Caged (2023), comprises of 93 teak wood bird cages arranged to resemble an airplane wing. Through the shape of the wings, the two artists invite the audience to think about the meaning of hope and freedom.
This workshop invites children to imagine, experiment, and play. In the 1-hour session, children will be guided to make masks and a pair of wings from used cardboard, which they can wear as costumes.
This workshop is limited to 15 participants. Workshop tools and materials will be provided.
Suitable for children aged 4–8 years, accompanied by an adult.
