Piccinini's artistic practice brings together the artist's interest in science fiction and the development of biotechnology, questioning the boundaries between the natural and the artificial and examining the relationship between humans, animals and nature.

Today’s technology and our daily life have blurred this notion of boundary. Through the medium of art, Piccinini invites the audience to rethink human nature, embodiment, and the underlying desires within every being - one of which, compassion, is highlighted in his first exhibition in Indonesia. 

Similar to the way chimeras exist in ancient mythologies and passed down as ancestral knowledge, the chimeras in Piccinini's work can be seen as some kind of a new myth that recontextualizes the connection between humans, animals and nature today
