Learn how Children's Art Space: Ulik Ulak Alik (Infinite Play) combines play and exploration of alternative materials in an artist talk session with Playo, Rambah Runtah and Mortier!
25.01.2025
About the Program
Why is play important? How can play nurture creativity? How to foster innovation in design through the activity of play? These are the questions that fuel Playo’s exploration in the Children's Art Space: Ulik Ulak Alik (Infinite Play), developed in collaboration with Indonesian material designers.
Playo, a Jakarta-based creative studio, views play not just as an activity, but also as an infinite source of inspiration that encourages us to imagine and create. The Children’s Art Space: Ulik Ulak Alik (Infinite Play) is based on the philosophy of play that is liberating and focuses on curiosity and the joy of experimentation, where through the activity of assembling or deconstructing materials, tinkering with colors, textures, and shapes, everyone is encouraged to embrace imperfection, chaos, and unpredictability as essential parts of the creative journey.
Material experiments developed by 10 material designers–collaborators include alternative materials such as textile waste, bioplastic, egg shells, cow dung compost, mycelium leather, fruit & vegetable leather, flower leather, corn husk paper, recycled bottle caps, and sponge waste. Through multisensory, tactile playing experiences, this project creates a space for collaborators and the audience to reimagine the endless possibilities of design innovation.
